How to become monk?

Deskpainting "Crucifixion Christi" (Vyssi Brod, 15. Century)If a young man discovers in him the desire to follow solely Christ as a monk, then he is invited to come to us for a few days and spend some days with our community.

  • If he would like to go a bit further and to get acquainted with the monastic life, he shall enter the first phase - so-called postulate, that takes about a year.
  • Following this period he may begin the novitiate wearing the white habit.
  • After at least one-year-long novitiate he shall make the simple temporal monastic vows for 3 years and thus he becomes monk.
  • If he will after that time make the decision to dedicate himself to God for ever, he may upon the approval of the monastic community make the solemn perpetual vows.

Some confreres are called by God also to the priesthood. The abbot lets them after a mature consideration ordain through a bishop, in order they would the Church, the mystical corp of Christ, consecrate by their service within the monastic community.

Conditions to enter candidacy:

  • Applicant must be a practicing Roman Catholic (18-35 years of age), at least 5 years after receiving the Sacrament of Baptism
  • Must be unmarried, free of commitments
  • Must have the sacrament of confirmation.
  • Must have the recommendation of a Roman Catholic priest
  • Must have completed his studies, work commitments and any activities that would in any way interfere with his formation for full consecration to God in the monastery
  • He must not have any debts and must not have any criminal record
  • Must have applied for candidacy
